Big Houston RODEO opens March 2nd

RODEO HOUSTON fans have an opportunity to get tickets to one of 20 performances in Reliant Stadium featuring superstar musical entertainment and thrilling rodeo action. Tickets are currently on sale.

Twenty-nine diverse entertainers make up the RODEO HOUSTON lineup. The list of prolific and acclaimed entertainers have together garnered numerous music industry honors, including 97 Country Music Association awards, 87 Academy of Country Music awards and 49 Grammy awards.

Since spring break for almost every school in Texas kindergarten through college coincides with the 2004 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo a special lineup of entertainers will be featured March 15-19 and the Show’s carnival will have an early opening at 2 p.m. each day that week.

The lineup of music industry stars currently scheduled to perform at the 72nd Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from March 2 to 21 includes

All weekday performances begin at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday performances begin at 4 p.m. Each performance begins with the grand entry, rodeo events and the calf scramble, and ends with the concert entertainer.

Rodeo tickets are $16, plus a Ticketmaster convenience charge, and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets including Foley’s, Fiesta, FYE and Wherehouse Music locations. Tickets are also sold on the Internet at ticketmaster.com. Tickets may be charged by phone at 713.629.3700.

Tickets may be purchased at Reliant Park at the south Reliant Stadium ticket windows. Ticket buyers should be aware that the only Show-authorized ticket outlets are at the Reliant Park box office and all Ticketmaster outlets.

Also available for purchase through Ticketmaster are World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest tickets and Houston Livestock Showase season passes. VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express cards will be accepted by Ticketmaster and at the Reliant Park box office.

Because of the nature of the event, there will be no restriction on backpacks, purses and other bags, but for increased security, everyone entering Reliant Park, and/or their possessions, may be subject to search.

RODEO HOUSTON fans have 20 performances to choose from each featuring some of the top rodeo athletes in the world competing in PRCA/ProRodeo action, the heartwarming calf scramble, exciting chuck wagon races and, to top it all off, the superstar concerts. In what has become the world’s largest rodeo, only the top 60 cowboys and cowgirls in the world are invited to compete in RODEO HOUSTON’s seven ProRodeo and WPRA events bareback bronc riding, barrel racing, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping and tie-down roping. Following three preliminary rounds, the RODEO HOUSTON finals will be on Saturday, March 20.

For those who can’t get enough of one of rodeo’s favorites, bull riding, PRCA Xtreme Bulls at RODEO HOUSTON promises thrills and excitement on Sunday, March 21. This special presentation of only bull riding features 30 contestants, with 15 advancing to the evening’s second round. In addition to the exciting 45 rides, the performance will include the calf scramble, grand entry and concert by Willie Nelson.

As the most convenient way to reach the Show, the Rodeo METRO Express will provide transportation for Show visitors from eight shuttle locations throughout Houston. Round-trip transportation on the shuttle is $3 for riders ages 13 and older and free for those ages 12 and younger.

From the northwest, riders can catch the shuttles at Delmar Stadium and METRO North Shepherd Park and Ride. In the southeast, the METRO Monroe Park and Ride serves as a pick-up and drop-off location. The Aramco Services Company at 9009 West Loop South, METRO West Loop Park and Ride, and METRO Westwood Park and Ride will serve patrons on the southwest side. Centrally located, the Minute Maid Park B and C Lots and Reed Road HLS&R Park and Ride will offer longer hours of operation than the other locations. Each lot is serviced by METRO lift buses.

Daily shuttle service to and from Reliant Park will begin on Tuesday, March 2. The Reed Road HLS&R lot will have continuous shuttle service from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. All other lots will operate from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Thursday; 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays; and 9 a.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday and Sunday.
All daily attractions at Reliant Park open at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, and conclude on Sunday, March 21. For additional information regarding the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Show’s Web site is available 24 hours a day.
