Sam Houston meeting Aug. 24 to gain support for school

Parents and Alumni and Community Members interested in the long term fate of Sam Houston High School are encouraged to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the High School at 9400 Irvington.
City Councilman Adrian Garcia will host a call for support by parents, and volunteers as mentors and fund raisers to help the school.
Sam Houston High School has been rated “academically unacceptable” for 4 years in a row by the Texas TEA, and faces sanctions such as being taken over by the state or a private company, or possible closing.
Houston ISD has threatened to close this campus and Kashmere if improvements and better tests scores are not achieved in the 2006-2007 school year.
