“Off the Road” columnist wins Excellence in Craft Awards

Bill Mills accepts an award from Larry Bozka of the Texas Outdoor Writers Association.

Bill Mills, author of the “Off the Road” outdoor column that appears weekly in the Northeast News, won two prestigious Excellence in Craft awards during the Annual Texas Outdoor Writers Association Conference in Amarillo two weeks ago.

Bill took top honors in the “Best Outdoor Illustration” category with his pen and ink illustration titled “Hot Pursuit.” The illustration is a bass chasing a lure. It was used to illustrate an “Off the Road” column about the ShareLunker Trophy Bass Program. Mills won another award in the category of “Best Outdoor Fiction” with a story titled “Of Silver Spoons and Summer Tides,” which was published in Gulf Coast Connections.

Mills is an active member of the Texas Outdoor Writers Association and has served the last three years on the Executive Board of Directors. Over the last several years, Bill has won numerous awards for his outdoor writing, photography, and wildlife illustrations.
