Hill, Jones returned to AISD board seats

Voters in Aldine ISD went to the polls on Saturday, May 4, and returned incumbents Marine Jones and Emmett W. Hill to their respective seats on the Board of Education.

Jones defeated challenger Joseph L. Nailor in the Position 1 race, while Hill ran unopposed for the Position 2 seat. Jones received 413 votes to Nailor’s 112 votes. Hill garnered 444 votes in his re-election bid.

Jones was appointed to the board in February of 2002 to fill the unexpired term of former trustee Doug Bussey, who resigned from the board in November of 2001 because he moved out of the district. Jones, a retired educator, worked for Aldine ISD for 38 years as a secretary, assistant librarian, librarian, teacher and counselor. She has resided in the district for 28 1/2 years.

Hill has served on the board since 1991 and currently serves as board vice president. During his tenure he has held all four board offices and chaired numerous committees. Hill was also a long-time educator in AISD serving as a coach, teacher and assistant principal.

Sunbelt Fresh Water Supply District Board Election

Voters in the Sunbelt Fresh Water Supply District elected two members to the board of Directors on Saturday, May 4th.

The election of Bill Kneer of Woodland Oaks, gives that subdivision (one of nine served by Sunbelt) a majority on the board.

Returned by the voters was Marcia Mattern of Heather Glen subdivision.

Other candidates for the at-large positions were Stephen Yu of High Meadows, Bill Hagebusch of Fairgreen, Linda Garret, incumbant, of Heather Glen and Earl Galceran of Oakwood Forest.

The new board members will serve four-year terms.
