Sheriff’s deputies break burglary ring

At approximately 3:20 am on June 6th, HCSO received a call regarding a person engaged in suspicious activies. District II Deputies responded to the call at the Acorn Mobile Home Park in the 5500 block of Gaston.

According to witnesses, two Hispanic males were seen using flashlights to unload items from a vehicle and into a residence. The deputies approached the house, found the front door open, and spoke with a male, later identified as Luis Zavala. The deputies could see car stereos, VCR’s, construction tools, television sets, and additional electronics and tools sitting in the living room area of the house. As the investigation continued, a white mid-nineties Ford sedan had additional stolen items and it was later determined that the vehicle was stolen as well. Upon further investigation, Luis Zavala and a Hispanic male Juvenile, age 13, were taken into custody. It is undetermined at this time as to how many car and residential burglaries they are responsible for. Zavala and the juvenile are currently charged with two counts of Burglary of a Motor vehicle and one count of Burglary of a habitation.

District II BARS (Burglary Apprehension Response Squad) is assisting in the recovery of the stolen property. They will be notifying the owners so that their property can be returned. The approximate value of the property that has been recovered is $25,000. This burglary investigation is ongoing.
