There was a groundbreaking ceremony last Friday Oct. 1 in the 4000 block of S. Victory St. for the upcoming LSC-Victory Center that will replace the LSC-Carver Center.
The LSC-Victory Center is being built in the southern portion of the LSC-North Harris service area.
The new upcoming center will be a 85,000 square foot facility and there are “3 parts all in one building,” said Dr. Steven Head, president of LSC-North Harris. “25,000 square foot will be the early College that we are bringing here; the second part, about 40,000 square foot will be an academic classroom part and about 20,000 square foot will be a state-of-the-art construction facility.”

Dr. Head said in the academic classroom’s area besides college classes, they will also have GED and ESL classes. And in the construction facility “people living in Acres Home and Inwood Forest will come in and get education in things like plumbing, welding, sheet metal, electrical work to get them in and out in better paying jobs,” said Dr. Head. “We are working with a lot of construction groups to accomplish this.”
“It’s about an opportunity and giving the people living here a chance to be successful,” said Dr. Head.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. Head recognized all the ISD Board Members, as well as Dr. Wanda Bamberg, Aldine ISD Superintendent for their partnership and hard work as well as Jarvis Johnson, Council Member for being present.
Dr. Head conclude that classes will start in Fall 2011, and they expect to have a little bit over 1,000 students enrolled at this facility.
