EAST ALDINE– A ceremonial groundbreaking took place last Wednesday, Nov. 2 to commence construction of a trunk sewer line and water lines in the Service Zone 11, east of US59.

Present at the event were County Commissioner Jack Morman, representatives of the District, the engineers Montgomery and Barnes, and the contractor Reliance Construction.

This $7,348,500 project is being funded partially by the East Aldine District, with additional funds from Harris County and the state. At the present time, the District is preparing a grant request to receive additional funding from the Texas Water Development Board for construction costs in the Sherwood and Benton Place neighborhoods.

The groundbreaking took place at E. Little York and Epsom Drives, near the south end of the boundaries of Service Zone 11. When completed, households will be able to connect to City of Houston water and sewer lines, at a nominal cost. The majority of the work is being conducted in the Sherwood and Benton Place development, east of US59. District authorities said that the current election for a one cent Sale and Use Tax collection would generate additional funds to continue this work in adjacent areas of the East Aldine District.
