The Aldine ISD 2018- 2019 Principals of the Year are Raymond Stubblefield from Smith Elementary School and LaTonia Amerson from Eisenhower Ninth Grade School. They will represent AISD at the Region 4 Education Service Center (ESC) Principal Recognition Ceremony on April 3 at Hotel ZaZa (5701 Main St.).
Each year, Region 4 has the honor of recognizing the leadership, service, and dedication of two campus administrators — one elementary and one secondary — from each of the districts.
Elementary Principal of the Year
Stubblefield, a native Houstonian who graduated from AISD’s MacArthur High School in 1984, has 30 years in education, including more than 10 years in administration. He is currently in his fourth year as the principal of Smith Elementary School. Stubblefield has served as a social studies teacher, program director, and assistant principal. He served as principal at Stephens Elementary School (2005- 2015) and Mendel Elementary (2003-2005) before being named principal at Smith Elementary School in 2015.
“I would like to share this recognition with my amazing staff members at Smith Elementary School for their dedication,” said Stubblefield. “I also have to share this with our wonderful students who make my job so rewarding.”
Secondary Teacher of the Year
Amerson has more than 15 years of experience in education. Amerson started as a substitute teacher in AISD in 2003 before serving as a language arts teacher at Parker Intermediate School (2004-2008). She quickly moved into administrative roles. She was an assistant principal (AP) at Conley Elementary (2008-2012) and Eisenhower HS (2012-2013). She was also an AP at Eisenhower Ninth Grade School (2013-2015) before being named principal of the campus in 2015.
“This is such an honor,” said Amerson. “I am humbled by this recognition, but I know that this was made possible by the success of our staff and students. This award is as much yours as it is mine.”
Both Amerson and Stubblefield learned of their wins during surprise visits from District leaders. The group was led by Superintendent LaTonya M. Goffney, Deputy Superintendent Selina Chapa, Assistant Superintendents Todd Davis and Janet Ray; Chief Human Resources Officer Juan Villarreal, Chief Communications Officer Sheleah Reed, and Executive Director of HR Robin Williams.
The annual award is given to a primary and a secondary level principal. The process began with principals nominating their peers. A committee was comprised of District-level administrators who reviewed the nominees. They selected the winners through a rigorous method that included looking at academic data, effective leadership skills and the collaborative culture at a campus that drives improvement. Dr. Robin Williams chaired the committee.
Aldine ISD will recognize Amerson and Stubblefield during the Educator of the Year Breakfast set for March 8 at the Hilton Houston North.
