Lone Star College-East Aldine Center celebrates dedication of new building

HOUSTON – On Friday, Sept. 13, Lone Star College-North Harris representatives joined with community leaders and elected officials to celebrate the opening of Lone Star College-East Aldine Center in the East Aldine Town Center.

The event included a ribbon cutting ceremony and pronouncements from dignitaries to an audience of approximately 250 attendees.

Lone Star College – North Harris President Dr. Gerald Napoles opened the event with welcoming comments and introduced the day’s speakers. The dignitaries included the following Lone Star College representatives, elected officials and community leaders.

– Dr. Stephen C. Head, chancellor, Lone Star College

– Dr. Alton Smith, chair, Lone Star College Board of Trustees

– Art Murillo, secretary, Lone Star College Board of Trustees

– U.S. Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia

– Texas State Senator Carol Alvarado

– Texas State Representative Armando Walle

– Mayor Sylvester Turner, City of Houston

– Hector Morales, representative from Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia’s office

– Ray Beltran, representative from Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis’ office

– David Hawes, executive director, East Aldine Management District Board of Directors

– Dr. LaTonya Goffney, superintendent, Aldine ISD

– Dr. Luis Lucio, dean, Lone Star College-East Aldine Center

After the remarks inside the center, the dignitaries went outside for a ribbon cutting ceremony held in front of the main entrance. The ribbon cutting was followed by an Open House for the community, with another 200 visitors being treated to demonstrations, tours conducted by student ambassadors, information presentations on the services provided at the center and opportunities to meet members of the faculty and staff.

Among the more popular demonstrations was the welding simulator featured in the Non-destructive Testing lab. Attendees learned how computer simulators can be used to augment the physical work students do studying welding technology.

The new center, located at 2430 Aldine Mail Route Road, Houston, provides a mix of academic college transfer courses and workforce training programs.

On-site services include registration, college placement testing, free tutoring, academic and career advising, financial aid assistance and a bookstore.

Lone Star College-East Aldine Center is in the East Aldine Town Center and was developed in a four-way partnership with Aldine Independent School District, BakerRipley East Aldine Campus and East Aldine Management District.
