Blanson appointed new Lone Star College-NH president

HOUSTON – Archie L. Blanson, Ph.D., has been named LSC-North Harris president. Blanson previously served as LSC vice chancellor of Student Services before being named LSC-North Harris interim president in January 2020.

“Dr. Blanson was the overwhelming choice of the Search Advisory Committee and was rated the highest in the forums by employees,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “He will be a positive addition to our leadership team in this new role.”

Blanson devoted 39 years in education to Aldine ISD, finishing his career as deputy superintendent before joining LSC in June 2019.

“I am extremely honored to be able to continue to serve the community that I have been a part of for more than 30 years,” said Blanson. “Lone Star College-North Harris has an obligation to help the community prosper, and that will be the foundation for initiatives that I implement as president.”

Blanson enjoyed many accomplishments and recognitions while serving in various roles at Aldine ISD. He was named the district’s 2003 Boss of the Year. Aldine ISD honored Dr. Blanson by naming its newest facility the Dr. Archie L. Blanson Career and Technical Education High School in his honor in 2018.

“While we had some excellent candidates, Dr. Blanson’s experience, his knowledge of the community, his understanding of the challenges facing Lone Star College-North Harris and his efforts to date were reflected in the evaluations,” said Head.

The selection process started in January and involved over 100 employees. Blanson also interviewed three separate times with Head about his expectations for LSC presidents.

“My initial priorities will be to manage the budget effectively that I have been entrusted with, share why Lone Star CollegeNorth Harris is a good fit for someone who is interested in earning transfer credits, completing workforce training and attending other enrichment classes, and to increase enrollment by fall of 2021,” said Blanson.

LSC-North Harris opened its doors in 1973 and offers more than 80 programs of study, including university-transfer and numerous workforce education courses and programs. LSC-North Harris is keenly focused on leading-edge technology in emerging technical job fields.
