63rd annual Aldine ISD FFA Livestock Show set Jan. 26-28

Nimitz High School senior Delana Temple will attempt to be a two-time grand champion when she participates in the steer show at the 63rd annual Aldine ISD FFA Livestock Show Jan. 26-28. The 63rd annual Aldine ISD FFA Livestock Show will be held Jan. 26-28 at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center.

“Please know that we are taking every measure to ensure that the safety and health of our students, staff, parents and visitors will be our top priority,” said Brooke Martin, Program Director of Career and Technical Education. “All shows and the live auction will be available virtually for those whom wish to not participate in person.”

RodeoHouston starts Feb. 28, announces performers, tickets now on sale


JANUARY 05, 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Announces 2022 RODEOHOUSTON® Entertainment Lineup for 90th Anniversary Celebration

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials released the entertainment lineup for the 2022 Rodeo season, scheduled for Feb. 28 – March 20, celebrating its 90th anniversary. The lineup features a mix of genres including country, EDM, Latin pop, R&B/pop, Norteño, pop, rock and Christian. Nearly half of the artists will make their RODEOHOUSTON debut in 2022.

“We are excited about the level of talent and diverse acts who will perform on the RODEOHOUSTON star stage in 2022,” said Chris Boleman, Rodeo president and CEO. “We welcome nine new entertainers who will make their RODEOHOUSTON debut, as well as many fan favorites, including the ‘King of Country’ music himself, George Strait, who will return to the stage to help celebrate our 90th anniversary.”

Individual RODEOHOUSTON tickets will go on sale to the public Thursday, Jan. 13, 10 a.m., at Ticket prices start at $20, plus a $4 convenience fee.

Cantu promoted to East Aldine MD executive director

ALDINE – The East Aldine Management District is pleased to announce the promotion of longtime staff member Richard Cantu to the position of executive director.

He will oversee all operations and staff work of the District, including progress on economic development, public safety, commercial corridor maintenance, public art, the East Aldine Town Center and much more.

David Hawes, a staff member since he helped create the District 20 years ago, now moves from executive director to District chief financial officer and senior advisor. Associate Executive Director L. Susan Hill and Operations Manager Veronica Sanches continue in their positions.

With deep ties to the people, businesses, institutions and government agencies in the East Aldine community, Cantu joined the district in 2008 as director of services. He has more than 28 years of experience as a public servant, having worked in management and executive level positions at the City of Houston (Parks and Recreation Department & Mayor’s Office), as director of the Houston Mayor’s Citizens’ Assistance Office and at BakerRipley. At the mayor’s office, Richard played an instrumental role in mobilizing critical resources during the response and aftermath of Tropical Storm Allison.

Free Houston COVID-19 vaccinations and testing sites

HOUSTON – The Houston Health Department is announcing the schedule for sites offering free COVID-19 vaccinations and testing during the week of January 17, 2022.

More than 20 sites offering vaccinations and more than 30 testing sites are on the schedule for the week.

Vaccination and testing at health department-affiliated sites does not require proof of residency, citizenship, or insurance.
