Veterans Day at Houston Cemetery

A special Veterans Day celebration will be held on Sunday, November 11 2001 at the Houston VA National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. An all-united veterans parade will take place on the facility grounds (near the service building) at 9:30 am., with a program following at 10:00 am.
The keynote speaker will be Vietnam Veteran and KTRK-TV Weekend News Anchor Bob Boudreaux. This will mark tHE 12th consecutive year that Boudreaux has presided over the annual Veterans Day commemoration.

Boudreaux who was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army through the ROTC program and served four years on active duty, flew with the 155th Assault helicopter company of the 1st aviation brigade during the Vietnam War. As an aircraft commander and aviation section leader, Boudreaux also earned numerous military decorations, including two awards of the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Air Medal for Heroism and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. During his final 18 months in the service, Boudreaux attained the rank of Captain where he was a flight instructor at the Primary Helicopter School.

In addition to remarks by the distinguished keynote speaker, the program will also feature music by the Arabia Shrine Temple Band, a rifle salute a bugler playing taps, and a cannon salute.

Driving Directions: Cemetery is located 15 miles Northwest of downtown Houston From Bush Intercontinental Airport take John F. Kennedy Blvd. South to Beltway 8. Turn right onto Beltway B West and exit at Ella. Follow the feeder road West to the third traffic light, and turn left on Veterans Memorial Drive. Proceed to the first traffic light and turn left on T.C. Jester. The cemetery entrance will be on your right.
