KATY Basketball playoffs were as important to the North Forest fans as school board meetings, as the Smiley Golden Eagles competed last Friday night against the Wheatley Wildcats in the semi-final playoffs in Boys Region III-4A.
The game ended with Wheatley defeating Smiley by the score of 85-79, but it was a great effort on the part of the Smiley team, as the game went back and forth most of the evening, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats.
High scorers for Smiley were guard Jonathan Simmons with 29 points, and Augustine Rubit 20. Wheatleys Cook had 21, Franklin 21, Garrett 13, and Daniels 10.
Smileys record is 26-6, and Wheatley 29-5 with a look toward a trip to Austin after its final playoff game against Yates (28-2).
Although Smiley trailed most of the game, they gained a lead of 59-54 on Rubits play in the 3rd quarter, but couldnt hold on.
