The 14th Annual Family Day was held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Sylvester Turner Park, 2800 West Little York. Area residents gathered for games, music and free food, courtesy of the sponsors and the City of Houston. And many politicians were present, to greet and talk with their constituents, including Mayor Sylvester Turner, State Rep. Armando Walle and Ana Hernandez, and many others.
Family Day featured three stages with music and other entertainment. J. Paul Jr. and the Zydeco Nubreeds, Carver High School Performing Arts Students, Tiger Rock Martial Arts, Operation Get Fit and more performed throughout the afternoon.
Inflatable games, a rock wall to climb, train rides for the little kids, face-painting, a senior tent provided a place to gather for our seniors and the Zoomobile brought some animals to meet.
The Major League Baseball/Houston Astros Urban Youth Academy at the Park held youth baseball games on three of the park’s fields beginning at 12 noon.
Food was plentiful and free. Feast on turkey legs, hot dogs, sausage on a stick, corn on the cob, nachos, popcorn and snow cones.
