EAST ALDINE – As part of their community event series, the East Aldine District hosted a day of “Unlimited possAbilities” for the public last Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm at Town Center. Dozens of folks of all ages participated, some with disabilities and some without.

The idea behind the event was a day of fun for those who normally don’t get out to participate in sports and public events.

Event coordinator Alma DeAlejandro organized a series of games and activities for everyone to enjoy something. These included a Fun Run to start the day at 9 am with help from Gloria Suarez of the Bee Abled organization. Participants could walk, run, use wheelchairs, or walkers. Some even had canes and crutches.

This was followed by basketball games at 10 am, assisted by Quentin Parks of The Fit Crew. These two activities were followed by an awards ceremony on the Amphitheater stage.

There was also music by a DJ, and at 11 am a group gathered to have a Parachute Twist, helped by deputies from the Sheriff’s office. There also was a motivational speaker, Gabriel Cantu, relating his own experiences with disabilities. This was followed by a raffle for prizes that included unique wheelchair hubcaps from Izzy Wheels.
