On Wednesday, May 24, Aldine ISD and METRO held an event for METRO’s Adopt a Bus Shelter Contest, which asked Aldine ISD students to create school pride inspired designs to be featured on future bus shelters closest to their respective campuses. The event was to showcase the winning students, along with unveiling the winning designs.
The winners consisted of students from Avalos P-Tech, Blanson CTE, MacArthur High School, MacArthur 9th, Aldine High School, Aldine 9th and Carver High School. The submitted artwork will be interpreted by a professional artist; they will pull inspiration from the submissions, and then use that design to decorate the five bus shelters.
The mediums allowed were hand drawn on paper or tablet, or through electronic art programs such as Adobe, Canva, ect.
Along with the art submissions, the students submitted a two to three paragraph description in order to give more insight to their piece. The writing consisted of what school spirit means to them, and what inspired their piece.
This contest is the byproduct of a long standing relationship AISD has had with METRO that spans several years. The partnership was formed through Aldine’s Visual Arts Department and METRO’s art and transportation initiative, to provide students of Aldine with opportunities to create and see their work and talent showcased in their own communities.
