Blanson CTE High School Principal Ben Ibarra announced that Nahum Guizar has been named a Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. The principal has presented a letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, to this scholastically talented senior.
Nahum would like to attend Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in electrical engineering.
About 34,000 Commended Students nationwide are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship awards competition, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable natural resource; recognizing their accomplishments and their schools’ critical role in their academic development is vital to advancing educational excellence in our nation. We hope this recognition will broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue pursuing academic success.”
The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)–a test that serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year–and by meeting published program entry/ participation requirements.
