EAST ALDINE – The East Aldine Neighborhood Depository and Recycling Center has fulfilled a much needed service this year, according to Coordinator Selina Valdez.
With a derecho in May and a Category 1 hurricane Beryl in July, the district has kept the Center busy collecting storm debris and disposing of it properly.
Selina says that they have collected over 750,000 pounds of material since opening one year ago, trash that would otherwise be strewn about the neighborhoods.
A one year anniversary party that was scheduled for May 18 turned out to be a massive collection day for the derecho debris. But Selina opened the center, and served cupcakes to those who brought their storm debris for disposal. All in a days work, she said.
