Schools to serve free meals throughout summer months

When school lets out, hunger doesn’t take a vacation. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) will offer free, nutritious meals to area children at participating sites.

Almost 1.3 million children in Texas are eligible for free lunch time meals during the summer. Only 15 percent are taking advantage of the SFSP. As a whole, the state ranked 45th when compared to other states participating in SFSP. Although the program is aimed at low-income families – kids who qualify for free nutritious meals during the school year – all children under the age of 18 are eligible.

Aldine ISD schools participating in the Summer Food Service Program include Mendel, Worsham, Oleson, Orange Grove, Odom, Dunn and Stephens Elementaries, Raymond, and Carroll Academies and GAP.
