Council considers various artists for its Public Art Initiative
By Monica Campos East Aldine District
The East Aldine Arts Council had an incredible field trip to see the City Place Public Art Program in Spring! We were truly inspired by the immersive artwork “Periwinkle” created by The Color Condition.
During our exploration, we also brainstormed on ways to bring more art into East Aldine! We believe in the power of art to transform communities and enhance our neighborhood’s vibrancy.
Save the Date: Our next EAAC committee meeting is on July 10th at 11 AM. We’d love to have you there!

ABOUT PERIWINKLE
The City Place Public Art Program makes its official debut with an immersive, site-specific piece entitled Periwinkle from Dallas-based creators The Color Condition. Working with a vivid color palette, pattern and movement, The Color Condition has designed Periwinkle as a series of fantastical realms inspired by childhood games (Candyland), characters (Peter Pan) and literature (“Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”). Intertwining the extraordinary and the everyday, it seeks to bring a new dimension of wonder to the urban core’s waterfront Plaza abutting the Houston City Place Marriott and adjoining City Place Park, spanning its main bridge.
The Color Condition is a collaboration and experiment between Sunny Sliger and Marianne Newsom. The two met through their association with The Shamrock Studios in Dallas, Texas. They were inspired in 2010 to join their efforts by a mutual love of COLOR, PATTERN AND MOVEMENT.
