Ribbon Cutting, First game at new stadium Thursday August 29th
By Mike Keeney
Labor Day Weekend brings with it the start of the high school season for Aldine ISD’s five varsity football programs and while that’s big news, the biggest news will be the opening of the new Thorne Stadium.
Aldine High School, the oldest high school in AISD, will have the honor of playing the first game in the new stadium when Ojeda Cirillo’s Mustangs will face Kempner at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29.
After a two-year hiatus, AISD’s five varsity programs will get to play “real” home games after playing at Spring ISD’s George Stadium for the last two years.
There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:45 a.m. on Aug. 29 to officially open the new Thorne Stadium. The ribbon cutting ceremony will occur following Aldine ISD’s State of the District Breakfast.
The Labor Day Weekend will be a busy one for the new stadium as Nimitz will host Morton Ranch on Friday and MacArthur will host Cy-Ridge on Saturday.
AISD’s other two varsity teams will open the season on the road as Davis will face a very talented Willis team in Willis and Eisenhower will face Westbrook.
