EAST ALDINE – The District will host their second annual International Arts Festival on Saturday, May 17 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Town Center. This will be a showcase for the multi-cultural nature of the District, taking full advantage of the many ethnicities that live or work in the area. The Festival is free, and will have all types of art, from performing to dancing, to visual and participatory, and meditation and poetry.
Event Coordinator Emily Erreguin and marketing manager Monica Campos have planned a full evening of art, dance, displays, classes, games, and more. The Astros Literacy Launcher Bus will be a special part of the event, they said and will include free books. The event schedule includes a jazz ensemble from MacArthur High School. Later look for the Soaring Phoenix CRCT Dragon & Lion Dances.
There will be Polynesian Dancers from the Young Audiences of Houston, who will perform at the Town Center Amphitheatre stage. They will perform a special song by Musiqa, entitled “Monument,” the song of the Spirit of East Aldine sculpture.
There will also be Live Mural Artists working all evening. Local as well as citywide groups will participate. There will be face painting, arts and crafts booths, moonwalk, train rides for the kids, and food trucks and more. There will be a giant Rubik’s Cube, to challenge all those who want to put it together. And don’t miss the giant piano and pinpress.
The High Meadows Public Library will be present, with favorite activities such as Makey-Makey Piano, Power Tiles, Button Making, and Cosmo Robots. A great Family Event, only in East Aldine District!
