The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has approved Aldine ISDs waiver request to start the 2002-2003 school year on Monday, Aug. 12, the school district announced.
The TEA notified Aldine ISD of its decision on Thursday, Feb. 28, to allow AISD to start the 2002-2003 school year on Monday, Aug. 12, instead of during the week of Aug. 21, as approved by the Texas Legislature.
To satisfy requirements for the waiver, Aldine ISD had to submit a waiver to TEA requesting it be allowed to start the school year on Aug. 12, hold a public hearing at its December Board of Education meeting, and had to specify the date the district intended to begin instruction for students. AISD also surveyed parents for their input.
Now that the date has been approved, the district also released the school calendar for the 2002-2003 school year.
The school year will begin with staff development days Aug. 5-9.
